Delhi Hostel Project: CM Rekha Gupta Announces 10,000 Student Capacity

Delhi Hostel Scheme is all set to offer a big boost to the accommodation needs of the students pursuing education in the national capital city. The Delhi government has planned to construct hostels having a capacity to accommodate 10,000 students, according to a statement made by the chief minister of the state, Rekha Gupta. The hostels will be offered to the students of all universities and colleges of Delhi. Affordable and safe lodging will be provided by the government to the students coming from different regions of the country so that they can concentrate on their studies without any worries regarding lodging facilities.

Hostels to be Set Up for Boys and Girls

Rekha Gupta, the Chief Minister of the region, announced that the hostels are going to be made available to boys and girls. All the boys and girls studying in any college or university located in the capital of India can make use of this facility under this new policy of the government. As stated by the Chief Minister, there are many students from different regions of India coming to study at various universities and colleges in Delhi. While most of the students find admission into these institutes, the biggest problem they have to face is accommodation.

Identification of Suitable Locations by the Government

Delhi government has already initiated negotiations with various departments capable of taking up the task of developing the hostels. Suitable locations are being considered by the officials for the proposed hostels. A policy regarding the proposed program of hostels is being prepared. The government is likely to determine various parameters for the program through the process of preparing the policy. It has been reported that the hostels are going to be constructed in such a manner that it caters to the necessities of the students.

Safety and Affordable Accommodation

Rekha Gupta pointed out that it was the intention of the government to ensure that parents from other states feel safe in bringing their children to study in Delhi. The new hostels, according to the proposal, are likely to be designed with the focus on safety, affordability and basic requirements. In the end, the main aim would be to ensure that the students don’t waste too much of their time and money looking for accommodation. The Chief Minister highlighted the fact that students must concentrate on their studies and career objectives without having to worry too much about finding appropriate accommodation. Such a program would especially help students from outside Delhi who are currently living in privately owned hostels or paying guests.

Delhi Seeks to Build Up Its Education Infrastructure

The news comes as the Delhi Government seeks to bolster its status as an educational hub. In addition to colleges and universities, accommodation constitutes an essential component of the infrastructure required to accommodate students who flock to Delhi. The hostels, which have been planned to house 10,000 students, could help build up the infrastructure required by students in Delhi. The policies of the Government will decide on the process through which the students of various institutions can avail themselves of the facility.

Hostel Announcement Amidst Satya Niketan Building Collapse

Furthermore, it is necessary to mention that the announcement of hostels comes amidst the recent collapse of Satya Niketan building where, as reported by some sources, seven people were killed. Some students resided in this building which was being used as a paying guest house facility. In this respect, a special operation was started by the government to demolish and seal down illegal constructions in Delhi. Thus, one can assume that the announcement regarding hostels can draw attention to this problem too.

What Students Can Anticipate

Following implementation of the policy, students enrolled in colleges and universities within Delhi might be eligible to secure government-funded hostels. Some of the provisions that will be made available to the students include the provision of facilities that will guarantee their safety and comfort. Delhi Hostel Policy is at its planning and policymaking stage, whereby various locations have been identified for discussion between government agencies. More information is anticipated after the official completion of the policy.  This project is presented as one that intends to make Delhi a student-friendly city through education and affordable accommodation facilities.
